Sean Martin is a self-taught painter working in Naarm (Melbourne), originally from Ngambri and Ngunnawal Country (Canberra). He is interested in how truth is constructed via image-making in painting, memory and scientific research. There is a fallibility in both the subjectivity of memory and the “objectivity” of scientific practice. Martin’s paintings examine this common slippage through figurative scenes and diagrammatic images. Martin completed a Bachelor of Science in cell and molecular biology at the Australian National University and will be commencing his PhD candidature in 2026.
